If you've been grinding Ranked and still feel miles behind the 99 OVR crowd, don't panic. Since the June Lightning update, MLB The Show 26 stubs have gone a lot further than most ppl think, especially if you're not trying to flex a maxed-out squad on day one.

June Lightning Cards Hit Way Above Their Weight
PCA is the big one. Fast, sticky in the field, and the swing just feels clean. That combo matters more than raw OVR in a lot of games, honestly. Sandy Alcántara is another name that keeps popping up, mostly bc that sinker with Outlier makes people look lost. Then you've got Zack Gelof, who just keeps showing up as one of the better middle infield bats. Cedric Mullins still feels premium too, but yeah, the price can be rough if you buy too early. Caleb Durbin is the sneaky one. His Contact and Clutch make him way more annoying than his card looks at first glance.

What ppl miss is simple: a card can be "expensive" and still not be worth your stubs if the swing feels off.

Event Mode Is Annoying, But The Rewards Still Matter
The current Event at Petco has its fair share of nonsense. Triple-hit missions are a pain. Early quits mess with innings. Strike zones feel a bit all over the place. Still, the grind pays out, and that's hard to ignore when free packs are sitting right there.
Bear Down got some love too, which helps a bit, but it doesn't magically fix the mode.

The Budget Lineup Rule Most Players Ignore
The best No-Money-Spent squads usually aren't built from pure OVR chasing. They're built from comfort. Good swing, easy timing, usable defense. That's it. If a card fits your hand-eye, it'll probably beat a shiny name you can't square up with.
1. Use Ketel Marte or Jorge Polanco at second.
2. Let Elly De La Cruz handle shortstop.
3. Keep Chipper Jones in the middle for thump.
4. Run PCA and Mullins in the outfield.
Supercharged cards also deserve more respect than they get. A lot of them cost less than the big names and still play like monsters for a few days. That's free value, basically.

Where Your Stubs Should Actually Go
Here's the thing. New cards almost always launch stupid high, then settle down once the hype fades. If you buy on day one, you're usually paying for other ppl's impatience. Waiting a few days can save a ton, and sometimes the card you wanted drops into a way better range without much effort on your part.

If you suddenly land a huge stack of stubs, don't rush into a shopping spree. Test a few pieces, buy the ones that fit, and leave room for market dips. That's how you stay competitive without burning your whole bankroll.

One Last Thing Before You Spend
A lot of players overthink ratings and forget how the game actually plays. Swing feel, defense, and your own timing matter a ton. A 90 OVR bat that clicks with you can easily outplay a 99 that sits cold for a week. If you keep that in mind, Diamond Dynasty stubs start feeling a lot more useful, and your squad gets better without the usual waste.
